Jay Smith is the managing editor of Pollstar.com and has been with the live music trade publication for over twenty years. He has had a ringside seat for all the changes the concert industry has undergone in the past two decades, including the emergence of international promoters, multi-day music festivals, third-party ticketing and “360 deals.”

Jay also writes Pollstar’s weekly “Gigs & Bytes” column, one of the longest-running, regular features focusing on digital music issues to appear in any music trade publication. Throughout the years he has chronicled the music biz’s struggle to come to grips with online music services, MP3 players, file-sharing, Internet radio, streaming and licensing.

Before joining Pollstar, Jay worked in radio for several years. He has a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting from Central Michigan University.
